Ask anyone who has completed the week-long circuit of Mont Blanc and they’ll tell you they’ve seen scenery the equal of any Himalayan or Andean kingdom. Speak to someone who has walked Pyrenean highlands and be prepared to hear about windswept high passes leading to remote, unpopulated valleys strewn with wildflowers. Europe has a wild heart of rugged mountains, but this is also a continent that excels at gentle pleasures, be it a cycle between timeless Provencal villages, a walk along cliff-top trails to the cubist villages of the Amalfi Coast, or an exploration of the table, sampling Italy’s or Spain’s many gastronomic highlights. And don’t forget Europe’s new stars. Whether you’re soaking in Budapest’s baths, walking Dubrovnik’s walls, or drinking in Krakow’s cafe culture, Eastern Europe offers travellers a whole dimension to the continent, its history, architecture and culture strikingly different and a wonderful contrast to ‘old’ Europe.

The classic landscapes of Europe, captured on the canvases of Renaissance and Impressionist painters, are astonishingly diverse, with thick woodlands, limestone mountains, sunny pastures and dramatic coastlines.
From the soft contoured hills of Tuscany to the savage peaks of Andalucia’s Sierra Nevada they provide a wonderful kaleidoscope of terrain for walkers and cyclists. In addition to the ever-changing scenery there are medieval hill towns to explore, along with charming hamlets, great rivers, tidy vineyards and ancient olive groves.
Peregrine’s wide variety of holidays allows you to discover one, or more of these regions in depth. Each has been carefully designed to give you a complete overview of the area you have chosen to explore, and our selection of quality accommodation is almost as varied as the landscape. We include charming village hotels, working farmhouses and superior country inns - all of which offer a very personalised service, as well as giving you the opportunity to mix with the local people.
If this isn’t already enough to whet the appetite, there’s also the local cuisine. Travelling in Europe should stimulate the taste buds, as well as the mind, so we’ve taken care to ensure all trips include many meals that reflect the specialities of the region.
You have a choice of ‘Guided’, or ‘Independent’ holidays. Experienced local leaders, either born or resident in the region, whose knowledge of the language, customs and traditions add immensely to the experience, lead all guided walks. ‘Independent’ walking and cycling trips are also available; these follow a pre-planned itinerary and allow you a greater measure of freedom and flexibility. Whichever you choose, you’re assured of a wonderful experience.
