Along the paths of the Burgundy’s famous wine country, the beautiful villages of Meursault, Pommard, Santenay, Puligny, Montrache dot the hillsides. The sunny slopes are blanketed by prestigious vineyards, while verdant forested hills complete the backdrop. The expression “art de vivre” (art of living) epitomizes Burgundy and there’s no better way to experience the elegance of its towns and the splendour of its landscapes than on foot and at your own pace. As you leisurely meander from one vineyard to the next you’ll encounter a rich history, you’ll enjoy tastings at world renowned chateaux and you’ll be captivated by the regions charm and bucolic beauty. This self guided walk is perfect for lovers of wine and country walks.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive Beaune.
Day 2 Train to Vougeo and loop walk around Vougeot visiting wine estates of Nuits-Saints-George. Discover the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot. Return to Beaune by train (3-4 hours).
Day 3 Walk through the prestigious vineyards of Beaune Premier Cru to Pommard. Continue to the picturesque village of Monthelie and explore the romanesque church and castle. Visit the renowned Chateau de Mersault for a wine tasting (4 hours).
Day 4 Walk up to the hamlet of Gamay. Follow a forested mountain ridge through the Santenay Premier Cru to the vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet, where pinor noir and chardonnay vines flourish (5 hours).
Day 5 Walk to the village of Auxey-Duressses passing prehistoric and Gallo-Roman ruins en route. Continue to the historic winemaking area of Saint-Romain (3-4 hours).
Day 6 Walk through forest and foothills to the perched village of Orches. Descend through the medieval village of Dracy to Chateau de Rochepot (5 hours).
Day 7 After breakfast transfer to Beaune where trip ends upon arrival.
