Having discovered the laid-back charm of Santiago and the nearby vineyards we fly south to the town of Puerto Varas in the heart of the Chilean Lakes District. Nestled on the shores of Lake Llanquihue, the town is backdropped by the perfect cone of the spectacular Osorno volcano and the snowcapped peaks of Mount Tronador and Calbuco. Travelling by bus and boat we take the lakes crossing to the Argentinean town of Bariloche set in the foothills of the Andes. A short flight away is the huge Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires, home to magnificent colonial buildings, wide boulevards and lively tango shows. On the Brazilian border with Argentina we explore the mighty Iguazu Falls, where 275 seperate waterfalls plunge over the edge of an 80-metre cliff in a thunderous roar. Our trip across the continent finally comes to an end in Rio de Janeiro, where we take in the sights of this colourful city and enjoy a dip in the Atlantic Ocean at famous Copacabana or Ipanema beach.
