We want you to have a great holiday experience, so we only run our trips during the times of year that are suitable for travel.
Egypt
It
is possible to travel in Egypt all year round. In the height of summer
(July/August) it can be very hot in the south although Alexandria is
particularly pleasant at this time. For those who live in Europe, this
is the peak travel season so we continue to operate some of our more
popular trips during this period. From September to November and March
to June the weather is ideal for travelling, with cool to warm nights
and warm to hot days. From December to February it is cool to cold at
night (but rarely lower than 6°C) and warm during the day (20°C -
25°C). In desert areas the weather can be colder in winter and hotter
in summer; night-time winter temperatures can therefore be below 0°C
and it sometimes snows at St Catherines.
Jordan
The
climate in Jordan is quite varied. The north of the country is hilly,
and in Amman and Jerash you will encounter a climate similar to that of
southern Europe, with warm to hot summers and cold winters (as low as
4°- 6°C during the day, with occasional snow). In Petra and Wadi Rum
the climate is more similar to that in Egypt. Travel is comfortable at
all times except July and August when it is particularly hot.
Syria
Syria
is considerably further north and the climate is consequently much more
European, with cold winters and warm to hot summers. Winter
temperatures in Damascus and Aleppo average around 6° - 8°C, but can be
as low as zero. The most comfortable seasons for travel are spring and
autumn (April/May and September/October) when you can expect average
daily temperatures of 15°- 22°C.
Lebanon
With
the Mediterranean to the east and a high mountain range to the west,
the climate in Lebanon is determined by where you are on any given day!
In general, spring and autumn (April/May and September/October) are the
most pleasant months for travel.
Oman
Oman
tends to be hot or very hot! The ideal months for travel are from
November to February. Spring and autumn are also quite pleasant
although during April and September it can be up to 35°C in the desert.
In the summer (July/August) daytime temperatures can soar to well over
40°C.
Morocco
In the north around
Casablanca, Rabat and Fes the climate is pleasant all year round.
Winter is cool to warm and summers are not overly hot. Further south,
as you head towards the Atlas Mountains, the climate is quite
different, with hotter summers (up to 30°C) and cold to very cold
winters. Certain parts of the Atlas, notably Jebel Sahro, are ideal for
winter trekking, with average daily temperatures around 12°C.
Libya
Libya
has two distinct climatic zones: coastal Mediterranean and desert.
Towns along the coast enjoy a temperate climate, with maximum
temperatures rarely exceeding 30°C except in July and August. The
desert areas around Ghadames and the Akakus can be visited at any time
except from June to August, when temperatures can often exceed 40°C.
