Cycling
There’s something celebratory about travelling by bike - as you ride past cheerfully waving villagers, freewheel with the wind at your back or roll into a new town at the end of a day - there's an optimism shared by those who pedal and the people they pass. Y ou might want to explore places steeped in cycling history, like France’s Tour de France villages, or see remote areas in a unique way, such as pedalling through Peru’s Sacred Valley or Southern China’s karst scenery, but the response is happily so often the same: a warm welcome, a cry of encouragement, maybe a cycle alongside some locals for a spell. Vietnam begs to be explored on two wheels, the bicycle remaining an integral part of the country’s transport and charm. And France – mention France to anyone who has cycled there and watch them swoon. Good roads and pretty villages, fields of lavender and sunflowers, the finest food and wine – in a word, perfect.
