Ghana

Ghana

Friendly locals, good times on the beach, tropical forests and rich in history – Ghana is West Africa at its most accessible and enjoyable. Peaceful golden beaches line up near Accra, Ghana’s bustling capital, while along the coast remnants of slavery’s terrible history are on show: Elmina Castle stands as a stark, emotional reminder of the barbaric past. Head inland for a rich slice of the unfamiliar: here lies the heartland of the Ashanti Kingdom as well as the loveable, lose-yourself maelstrom that is Kumasi market, one of the region’s largest, and certainly the most hectic. From laid back to frenetic, Ghana’s character may change, but it’s never less than compelling.
