Please note that these trips are for adults and children travelling together and there must be at least one child under 18 with you.

Our Family Adventures are designed specifically for the spirited family and operated by our sister company The Family Adventure Company. We understand that travelling with kids sometimes requires a slightly different perspective. Keeping this in mind, we travel at a slower speed - recognising that showing your family around our exotic destinations can take time. By travelling at a relaxed pace, while still offering plenty of optional activities along the way, we're providing your family with the ultimate travel experience together.

Accommodation is chosen carefully to ensure your family gets the best of both worlds, with some of the creature comforts of home as well as experiencing accommodation unique to the region you are travelling through. Wherever possible you will stay in hotels with small comforts to make your stay more enjoyable - such as restaurants nearby, or accommodation with a pool. On some trips you may even find your family being rocked to sleep on an overnight sleeper train or drifting off while camped out under a canopy of stars - and we reckon it'll be these experiences the kids will love and remember the most.

Best of all, we find trips with children are so successful because kids have such a special ability to break down barriers with their natural curiosity, and because delighted locals always greet them with much affection. For all these reasons and more, you'll discover that Family Adventures are an amazing experience for all.

    Itinerary

    Day 1 - Johannesburg

    • Sawubona! Welcome to South Africa.
    • Trip starts with a group meeting at 12 noon today.
    • Johannesburg is a sprawling city of remarkable contrasts. In the townships, mansions stand alongside tin shacks and there are as many green parks on the outskirts of the city as there are conglomerations of concrete in the centre. This is a good place to spend a couple of days to get an insight into South Africa's history, and it's a great base for exploring the rest of the country.
    • This afternoon we head out on a township tour of Soweto - an exciting opportunity to get an insight into contemporary life in South Africa, and to learn about the history of one of South Africa's best known townships.

    Day 2-3 - Hluhluwe - Imfolozi Park

    • Departing Johannesburg early this morning we travel into the heart of KwaZulu Natal where we camp at an Eco-Lodge just 20km from Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park.
    • We explore the reserve on game drives and visit a hide overlooking one of the waterholes, to watch the animals come down to drink.
    • Covering over 96,000 hectares Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park is home to the largest population of White Rhino in the world due to conservation efforts. The park is also home to lions, elephants, leopards, giraffes, buffaloes and wild dogs.
    • Wildebeest Eco Lodge Basic Camping:-Our small rustic campsite consist of only 10 stands. A communal fully stocked kitchen is available with gas stoves, kitchen utensils, fridge/freezer, braai and campfire place. Ablution consist of showers, wash basin and toilets. Camping guests are more than welcome to use the swimming pool, bar and restaurant in the lodge. Food works with a chef cooking and the rest of the group helping with washing up.
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

    Day 4-5 - Kosi Bay

    • This morning we leave the game reserve and visit a Zulu village with a local community guide.
    • Then travelling northeast to the coast brings us to the remote and beautiful Kosi Bay Nature Reserve.
    • Kosi Bay's location means the the wildlife experience is on two fronts, with a picturesque jungle with wild fig and monkey orange trees, and grazing area for hippos, as well as a mangrove and coral reef teeming with aquatic life.
    • While here we go kayaking in the mangrove and snorkelling over the coral reef.
    • Amangwane Camp - Our accommodation comprises of 10 traditionally constructed en-suite reed chalets with a separate communal dining and boma area, which of course has a fire pit – no night in South Africa, would be complete without an evening under the stars swapping stories of your travels around a campfire. No Electricity.
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 6-7 - Hlane National Park - Swaziland

    • Driving north (approx 350 km) we reach the small, landlocked kingdom of Swaziland, and Hlane National Park.
    • A vast expanse of bushveld and its ancient hardwood trees make Hlane Royal National Park home to the largest wild herds in Swaziland.
    • Here we will go out on a game drive with a local guide and keep an eye out for elephants, white rhinos, giraffes, kudus, zebras and more.
    • Accommodation:- Ndlovu Camp offers a great-value and spacious camping ground with ample grass and tree coverage. The Campsite is within easy reach of Ndlovu's semi-open-air restaurant overlooking a waterhole frequented by White Rhino and Elephant, Hlane's Activities Center and a Braai/BBQ area. A communal kitchen, laundry area and ablution block with hot running water is available. Relax in a tranquil environment and admire the odd visit from an inquisitive impala, warthog or nyala walking between the facilities. Or if you're feeling more adventurous, book a guided mountain bike trail, bird walk or game drive and explore the greater Hlane area. In the absence of electricity in Ndlovu Camp, the rest camp area is romantically lit at night with candles and paraffin lanterns, and firewood is provided for braai/bbq and communal camp areas.
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 8-9 - Kruger National Park

    • Your journey will take you back across the border into South Africa and on to Kruger National Park today. You can enjoy some of the finest game viewing in Africa here.
    • Upon arrival, you will embark on a game drive, searching for the Big Five - lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant.
    • You will have another two opportunities to see the Big Five on Day 9, when you will be taken on another two epic game drives (each game drive is approximately 2 hours).
    Breakfast | Dinner

Day 10-11 - Blyde River Canyon

    • You will walk the Blyde River Canyon today - one of the largest in the world. The Canyon is spectacular, with sheer cliff walls rising 2000 metres above the ground, and an array of vegetation that evolves from dry, rocky outcrops to lush rainforest as the altitude changes.
    • You will have a free day on Day 11. You can choose to go white water rafting on the Sabi River (optional at extra cost) or alternatively enjoy a tree top canopy tour (also optional at additional cost). If you prefer there are also self-guided hikes through the countryside in the area.
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner
