Zanzibar - a place of colourful history, exotic spices and beautiful beaches. We begin our visit in historic Stone Town, the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses. Spend a day wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways or dazzle your senses with the fresh aromas of nutmeg, cinnamon and coriander on a visit to the spice plantations.
Our next stop is one of Zanzibar's stunning East Coast beaches for some well earned rest and relaxation! Our lodge is family run with wonderfully friendly staff and is set magnificently along a pristine, unspoilt beach that stretches for miles. Whilst here there is a myriad of activities from which to choose - including world-renowned diving, snorkelling trips, kayaking and sailing to name just a few!
You may like to rejuvenate with a day at the spa, sample delicious, fresh lobster on the beachfront while watching the sun set or get active with a game of beach volleyball. The combination of colourful Stone Town and spectacular beaches will ensure that Zanzibar is sure to be a memorable finish to any African safari!
On arrival at Zanzibar Airport you will be met by a representative of Madeira Tours and transferred to the Tembo Hotel in the Stone Town area. The Tembo Hotel, once an American Consulate, is located in the heart of Zanzibar town, surrounded by historic buildings on the sea front. The first thing that strikes you will be the wonderful colouring and beauty of the hotel. It is fully equipped with all first class facilities. Its self contained rooms are ornamented with Oriental and Zanzibari furniture. The spacious rooms are fully air-conditioned with hot and cold water, television, phone and mini bar at your disposal. To cool off during the heat of the day there is also a swimming pool.

This morning you will be taken on a tour of the surrounding spice plantations, where you have the opportunity to see and taste a variety of spices including cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg as well as tropical fruits. Your guide may also introduce you to certain rare plants, such as the henna bush and the lipstick tree before your return to Stone Town. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore the old town, wander through the alleways, marvel at the unique and ornate doorways that the city is known for. In the evening there are many great seafood restaurants from which to choose and a lively night market to pick up gorgeous Zanzibari curios.
