    Why we love it

    • Set up camp on a beach outside the Saadani National Park, and go on a boat safari and 4WD game adventure through the park.
    • Gain a better understanding of animal conservation efforts and visit important elephant and turtle projects. You may even have the opportunity to see a turtle hatch!
    • A night drive is a wonderful way to explore the wildlife filled plains of the Saadani salt flats.
    • Enjoy the bright and bustling Stone Town in Zanzibar, known for its trade in spices, and in bygone days, slaves.


    Day 1 - Zanzibar to Saadani National Park

    • Today you will meet your group at Zanzibar airport before taking a connecting flight to Saadani National Park.
    • Arriving in Saadani airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation. Your destination is Saadani National Park, lying on the side of the Indian Ocean. You will be free to relax on the beach, or go for a wildlife walk.

    Day 2 - Saadani National Park

    • Your tents will be situated on the picturesque beach that borders the park, complete with a bar and restaurant. The historical ruins of a mosque lie close by, along with the local village, Mkwaja.
    • You will go on a boat safari on the Wami river this morning, where you will have the opportunity to see crocadiles and hippos up close. This trip is especially wonderful for bird lovers.
    • You'll enjoy a packed lunch before an afternoon game drive in a jeep.

    Day 3 - Elephant & Turtle Project

    • There will be a briefing about the green turtle and elephant project in the morning, along with a Swahili lesson for anyone who is interested. You'll then attend a lecture on the conservation work being done in the area, before heading to the field to observe the elephants

    Day 4 - Turtle Hatching

    • You will spend the morning enjoying nature walks around the lodge or canoeing down Mafui Creek. After lunch you will go to the Madete Marine Park and learn about the green turtle project. If you're there during peak season (July to September), you may be lucky enough to witness a turtle hatching. You may even be required to help the turtles reach the sea, if the experts feel that there is a threat to their path.
    • If you miss seeing a live hatching you will hav ethe opportunity to visit the breeding beach and the turtles nests.
    • You will drive to the Saadani Tower for a sundowner drink while looking out across the wildlife-filled plains, before going on a night drive to spot animals on the salt-flats and enjoying dinner.

    Day 5 - Saadani National Park

    • Today you will set off on an early morning foot safari across the salt flats before returning to the lodge to enjoy breakfast in the tower.
    • The rest of the day will be free to enjoy as you please, you may choose to relax at the lodge, or go for a walk at the local beach.
    • Later in the day, you might have the chance to visit a local school (Mkwaja Primary School) and perhaps partake in a spontaneous football match and interact with the local villagers.

    Day 6 - Zanzibar - Stone Town

    • You will be transferred back to Dar Es Salaam today for your flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrval in Zanzibar, you will be met and taken to your hotel. The exotic island of Zanzibar is known for its trade in spices, and in bygone days, slaves. Your hotel is situated in the atmospheric and historic centre of Stone Town. Only 40 kilometres off the mainland coast of Tanzania lies this beautiful spice island, known to the locals as Ungudya. It has an area of 1400 square kilometres and a population of about 100,000, of whom more than half reside in the capital, Stone Town.
    • Steeped in history, this old town is a maze of narrow streets with whitewashed houses and magnificently carved, brass studded teak doors, quaint shops and bazaars. The market and bazaars are fascinating and are ideal spots for topping up your spice collection at home or souvenir shopping. Zanzibar was also one of the headquarters for slave trading and the starting point for many of the famous explorers such as Speke, Livingstone, Burton and Grant.

    Day 7 - Stone Town

    • You will have the opportunity to explore atmospheric Stone Town today. From the narrow, winding streets, to the busy fish market, Stone Town is awash with colour and an evocative mix of people.

    Day 8 - Zanzibar

    • Your tour will come to an end after breakfast today. You may wish to extend your stay so you can enjoy the beautiful beaches before heading home. Please ask about booking extra accomodation (this comes at an additional cost) when you book your trip.
