Safety Information for Antarctica
The safety of all who travel on our cruises is a priority for us – we do everything we can to ensure your adventure with us is as safe as possible. Safety is a combination of having the right, well-maintained equipment, trained staff and crew, and a philosophy that considers safety as part of our everyday operations.
Equipment
You’ll find on our polar trips that all our equipment is of the highest standard and excellently maintained. Our crew are proud of their ships, and are committed to giving you as safe and enjoyable a journey as possible. We provide you with equipment to help ensure your comfort and safety as well – upon boarding you’ll receive an expedition parka (yours to keep) and rubber boots – perfect for the rigours of the harsh Antarctic climate.
People
Our captains and crew are all mariners, with extensive experience in the polar regions. Our senior captains each have more than 15 years’ experience in polar regions with expedition cruise operations. Our expedition staff are similarly experienced, with some having visited polar areas over 100 times. We also have a resident Medical Officer on all our Antarctic trips.
Everyday safety
Our experience, attention to detail and passion for taking people to this remarkable region will all ensure you have an amazing trip, and that you’ll be in safe hands. But we want to ensure you feel safe as well. We have safety briefings on all trips where crew will run through in detail safety procedures and are happy to answer any questions you have. We also always encourage passengers to take a tour of the Bridge – perfect for getting a feel for the ship’s heart, and very interesting too.
Personal belongings
A security safe, controlled by the hotel manager, is available on the ship should you wish to deposit valuables for the duration of the trip. Little money is needed onboard. All drinks and items purchased at the ship’s shop can be put on an account and paid by either cash or credit card at the conclusion of the cruise.
