South Georgia
It may be the gateway to Antarctica, but South Georgia is much more than just a staging post to the seventh continent. This tiny speck in the South Atlantic’s high seas harbours rich history and one of earth’s greatest wildlife spectacles. This is Sir Ernest Shackleton’s final resting place, his alcohol-soaked grave a place to toast the great explorer and learn your Antarctic history. Nearby is South Georgia’s astonishing penguin rookery: amidst wallowing seals, hundreds of thousands of colourful king penguins blanket the beach and plains, a cacophonous, unforgettable explosion of life, the snow-covered mountains the perfect backdrop. Elsewhere, fjords and bays are ripe for exploration and lucky adventurers are treated to a quintessential Antarctic sight: a majestic albatross riding the winds as they follow your boat.

Kayaking in Antarctica
Neil - Mt Lawley, WA, 10 Feb, 2012
Most memorable moment - kayaking with Minke whales on a glass-like ocean, no wind with a cloudless sky and only the sound of cracking glaciers and whales coming up for air to break the silence was one of the most unforgettable afternoons.

"Zodiac cruising among icebergs, such huge numbers of penguins, penguins being even more comic, unafraid and curious than you expected to see."
