Introduction to Spitsbergen 2012
This voyage welcomes all travellers but is designed specifically with families in mind. It combines fun physical activities with hands-on learning about the Arctic, its history, and wildlife.Children can experience the ultimate holiday in the land of the midnight sun. With 24 hours of daylight, we will have the best possible opportunity to see polar bears, whales and walrus in their natural habitats. Days will be filled with a mix of family activities – for all ages and abilities – and time apart, when young travellers can let off steam together while parents relax with other travellers. Highly trained staff will ensure that all guests get the most out of every day.
Here are some reasons why families will enjoy this voyage:
The pace of this voyage may be slightly slower than on some of our other trips, allowing both children and parents to enjoy each activity to the full. The specific activities offered on this voyage will be tailored to the size and composition of the final group. On board the ship, activities may include: learning about ship navigation; the study and identification of animal prints through fun quiz activities; and the building of clay models. Ashore, activities may include: Zodiac cruises on the lookout for seals, walrus and whales; a photography course geared to children; and the re-enactment of key moments in the history of exploration.
Please note that an adult family member will be required to accompany children aged 15 and under on all activities taking place off the ship. Children aged 8 or 9 may also apply for participation provided they weigh at least 29 kilograms, are at least 1.2 metres tall, and have previously spent time on a boat. All guests must be comfortable getting in and out of a Zodiac, and walking up and down the gangway. Note that guests under the age of 18 will not be allowed to participate in the optional kayaking activity available on this voyage.
Note: Weather, ice and other mitigating factors may result in changes to our itinerary and alteration to certain shore excursions.

The most amazing place I've ever been to! The huge glaciers and snow capped mountains combined with the wonderful wildlife that inhabits the area, made the trip unforgettable. The memories I have will last for a lifetime!
