Image of the week: The time-worn churches of Ethiophia

"I weary of writing more about these buildings, because it seems to me that I shall not be believed if I write more ... I swear by God, in Whose power I am, that all I have written is the truth" - Portuguese priest, Francisco Álvares.

Ethiopia's Church of St. George is one of eleven monolithic churches in the city of Lalibela. Hewn from red volcanic rock back in the 12th century, it’s the most renowned church and has often been referred to as the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’. For travellers through the area, it’s a rare and enchanting glimpse into centuries past.
