Image of the week: Ruins on the Riviera

Perched on the edge of the azure Caribbean ocean, on the astounding Maya Riviera, the ruins at Tulum are a true Mexican highlight.

Though perhaps not as spectacular as other ruins in the area, the setting of this Post-Classic (1200-1500 AD) site makes for an unforgettable glimpse into a forgotten world.

Once you’ve navigated the architecture, all that’s left to do is relax on the nearby white-sand beach and float in the warm, crystal waters. There’s no better way to savour the history and the mystery of the ancient Mayans.
