Your Europe Tour Leader of the Year 2011

Bayram Tanrıverdi, was recently named Peregrine Europe Tour Leader of the Year 2011. Bayram was born in Niğde in Kapadocia and has been taking small tour groups around Turkey for six years.

We thought this was the perfect time to introduce you all to Bayram, and also give those who have met him a chance to pass on their congratulations.

Breaking the news
When Bayram heard the news, he sent us a very touching email describing how the award made him feel. He said, “To make people happy is absolutely wonderful, to be appreciated by people and company is great and to be awarded is delightful. My family and my friends all over the world are so happy and proud of me”.

When asked to describe his country, Bayram writes:

"If you wish to know about the rebels of Hippodrome in Istanbul, lives without light in underground city, local family with their tasty food and culture in Cappadocia; If you wish to listen Sufi music, see and learn about whirling dervishes in Konya, follow Apollo in the land of light Lycia and dive in to turquoise water of Mediterranean to discover the ruins of Sunken City; If you wish to get 10 years younger in Pamukkale magic water as Cleopatra did, and witness daily life of ancient Ephesians; If you wish to commemorate all the fallen heroes of Gallipoli campaign and have local food throughout Turkey, learn about the traditional life of the people and see the modern Turkey then I would like to invite you to join us. Leave yourself into rhythm and let me inform you about deep history, interesting customs, happiness and tears of warm Turkish people of Turkey.

Your thoughts

We’ve had lots of feedback from Peregrine travellers about their time with Bayram. Here are just a few examples of what people have said:

  • “Just a quick line to let you know that the Treasures of Turkey was terrific.  Bayram was a wonderful guide and all the tour members were very impressed with him and the tour." Rosalind Brooks
  • “I have just returned from a 15 day tour of Treasures of Turkey. Just thought I would let you know that I had a wonderful time.  It was fabulous. But what made the holiday a success was the tour Leader, Bayram Tanriverdi. He was wonderful – his knowledge of Turkey, the history and its culture that he imparted upon us was invaluable and fascinating.  His personality and sense of humour was fantastic and it was sad bidding him goodbye at the end of the tour. This is what gives Peregrine a good name, having leaders like Bayram leading groups.” Irene Gannon
  • We all learned so much from our wonderful guide. His capacity for forestalling any minor personal relations issues, his storytelling, weaving together legends and history, his reading of poetry and historical accounts, his knowledge of the geography of the locations we visited, his willingness to adapt the program to suit the conditions, and his guidance about wise conduct and places to patronise, all added immeasurably to the total experience.” (Anonymous)
  • “Our tour guide, Bayram, was excellent. His knowledge was extensive, his memory impeccable, his personality was wonderful. A truly delightful person who put so much more into the guide role and added so many personal touches that these occasions were really the highlight. He deserves an award from Peregrine for his devotion and love of his country.” Carol Barden (pictured above with Bayram)
