Jordan Explorer

Although we kicked off our Middle East trips in 1985 we didn’t start taking travellers into Jordan until 2004. Since then it’s become one of our favourites in the region, with three stand out experiences our staff can’t stop raving about…

1. The Treasury, Petra
“No matter how high your expectations, Al Khazneh (The Treasury) in Petra will exceed them. And while you can travel from the front gate by donkey or carriage, for me an essential part of the experience is the walk in. It’s a couple of kilometres, with the last half along a steep-sided narrow gorge called the Siq. You follow this natural pathway with irrigation channels on either side, past tombs and rock formations before the pathway opens up and you get your first glimpse of The Treasury. It’s a spectacular moment, something you’ll never forget.” – Pete Miers, Middle East Destination Manager

2. Floating on the Dead Sea
“It’s the most amazing experience, you walk in and once you get to about waist height you can’t keep your feet on the ground. Your feet are swept up, you just can’t stand up! We floated around and smothered ourselves in the mud from the sea floor as the minerals are supposed to be really good for your skin. Careful though as it does sting after a while! We played around for a good 45 minutes, we were like kids just playing in the mud!” – Fiona Black, Marketing Coordinator

3. Stay in a desert camp in Wadi Rum
“The best way to experience the desert is to stay the night in a Bedouin camp, but try to get there before sunset – the sun bathes the sand in this incredible light. After a traditional Bedouin meal some music is played, stories are swapped and more sweet tea is inevitably poured. Being part of the Bedouin lifestyle is eye opening, you’re among some of the most hospitable people you’ll ever meet.” – Tristan Love, Industry Marketing Manager
