Travel inspiration: 15 fantastic travel quotes

Travel is one of life's most inspiration-inducing undertakings. In every travel brochure, magazine, book or diary, you'll find countless cliched superlatives describing the world around us and the act of travel itself. Of course, some travellers are better at summarising the emotions their journeys evoked than others. With observations such as, "The cool thing about being famous is traveling. I have always wanted to travel across seas, like to Canada and stuff", for example, it's clear that Britney Spears is unlikely to go down as one of the great travel philosophers of our time. The same could be said for Justin Bieber, who at a recent visit to Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam, wrote in the guest book: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber".

From the poignant, to the witty and the tongue-in-cheek, here's a selection of some of our favourite travel quotes from over the years.

Now you watch a movie and [go to the toilet] and you’re home." - Louis C.K., comedian
