Brendan van Son has done some pretty wild things in Antarctica. Here he shares some of his favourite activities, including a few you might never have considered!
Wildlife trekking
Perhaps the most obvious activity to take part of in Antarctica is wildlife trekking. In Antarctica the animals aren't exactly hard to find, however, to have the best experience you'll need to hike off the beach and through the snow or cruise through icebergs on a zodiac. Animals you'll see in Antarctica are penguins, whales, seals, and countless numbers of birds.
Kayaking
Paddling through the waters of Antarctica on the back of a kayak gives the traveller a completely different perspective of the area. It allows you to truly feel the power of nature as it will put you within metres of huge icebergs, jumping penguins and surfacing whales.
Penguin sliding
The way the penguins run then go for a slide down a shoot of ice looks like so much fun. Why not try if yourself? The hills of Antarctica make for a wonderful place to get to feel like a penguin and slide on your backside through slick white snow. Antarctica has a way of making people feel like kids all over again, and taking part in a penguin slide will surely leave you giggling like a 5 year old.
Camping

The thought of camping itself might not conjure up great ideas of adventure. However, camping on the white continent surely is adventurous. There are not usually tents involved in an Antarctic camping trip; instead, you'll have to dig yourself a nice warm hole in the snow to shelter yourself. The challenge of the camp itself is greatly rewarded by a night in the thick of nature and under the beautiful Antarctica skies.
Diving
Most people can't even imagine taking an Antarctic swim, let alone going on a diving expedition. However, there are quite a few people who go for a dive in the below freezing waters of Antarctica each and every year. The underwater world is completely different. You'll get the chance to see penguins in the water, the beautiful icebergs, and if you're lucky you might even find yourself swimming near to seals and whales.
