Beijing is known for Peking Duck, Xian is known for its dumpling feast of all shapes and sizes, Shanghai is where east meets west, Chengdu is home to the famous Sichuan style of cooking and Yangshuo is strong with Chinese minority cooking, Hong Kong is home to yum cha. This trip is the perfect mix as we intersperse the cooking and eating extravaganza with everything iconic about China. The Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Terracotta Warriors, playful pandas and the limestone karsts of Yangshuo. It is truly a gastronomic and visual experience that gives us more than just a taste of China.

Itinerary

1 (Sat) Arrive in Beijing, transfer to hotel.
2 Visit remote section of the Great Wall.
3 Morning visit to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. Afternoon culinary market tour plus cooking class in Chinese cuisine.
4 Morning visit to Temple of Heaven. Overnight train to Xian.
5-6 Arrive Xian. Visit Terracotta Warriors. Free time and optional walking tour of Muslim Quarter. Dumpling feast for dinner.
7-8 Fly to Shanghai. Walking tour of the Bund. Free time. Shanghai is known for the cuisine of east meets west so we enjoy a meal at a French-Chinese fushion restaurant.
9-10 Fly to Chengdu. Free time. Sichuan cooking class. Visit Giant Panda Breeding Research Base.
11 Fly to Guilin, bus to Yangshuo.
12 Bike ride to Moon Hill. Afternoon cooking class in Yao minority food.
13 Free time, drive to Guilin. Overnight train to Guangzhou.
14 Arrive Guangzhou then ferry to Hong Kong. This evening we enjoy yum cha Hong Kong style.
15 Tour ends after breakfast (Sat).
