Mongolia
With interesting museums and monasteries, Ulaanbaatar without doubt has its appeal, but Mongolia is all about the landscapes. This is a world without boundaries, where vast plains are matched only by the enormous blue sky. On and on the steppe rolls here, grassy plains and rivers bringing vital life to the nomads and their livestock who populate the area. To stand amidst these landscapes is to see the world at its largest – nature on an incredible scale, dwarfing you and all who travel through it. A truly humbling place to be. The Gobi Desert is further south, surprisingly green in places and the perfect spot to experience Mongolian culture with a stay in a traditional ger, camping in snug comfort as nomads have here for millennia.
