As the only wildlife sanctuary in Tanzania that borders the sea, the opportunities for viewing animals in Saadani National Park are numerous and varied. See elephants frolicking on the ocean’s shore, lions lounging in trees, regal giraffes nibbling on treetops and buffaloes drinking their fill at crowded watering holes as you take morning and afternoon game drives. Fly on to Selous Game Reserve and enjoy your new surrounds with game drives and boat safaris for the chance to see aquatic giants like crocodiles and hippos, as well as a slew of birds.

In Selous group 1 will leave after breakfast for a safari which includes taking a game drive across a large area of the reserve, crossing the miombo woodland near the Beho Hills, through acacia dominated areas into open stretches of grassland, dotted with doum palms, around the lakes. A packed lunch will probably be taken on the boat safari which comes as part of this trip. Lake Tagalala is full of crocodiles, hippos and wonderful birds, and the game drive route is likely to offer lion sightings, and a strong possibility of wild dogs.

In Saadani, group 2 will leave early the next morning on a game drive in the park, returning for breakfast at the lodge. They will also take an afternoon game drive, returning at last light for dinner. Saadani has some very large elephant herds and unique coastal lions which den around the salt flats, behind the mangroves. Giraffes and buffalo are plentiful, and the rare Roosevelt sable antelope may be seen in the North of the park.

There is a reasonable chance that turtles may be hatching at this time of year and so plans may change to allow the group to see this.
