Why we love this trip

  • Exploring the Amazon Jungle is an enhanced experience with a local guide. Learn about the native wildlife, the medicinal properties the Amazon provides, construction and the jungle's natural source of food.

  • The structure of this independent experience provides optimal wildlife viewing. A 30 foot canopy tower near the lodge is great for spotting various species of bird. Cruise on the lake keeping an eye out for turtles and hoatzin. Rise early to visit on observation point at a clay lick. Lookout for caiman on a late night boat trip.

  • Spending your nights in a rainforest lodge is the perfect base for exploration. With hiking trails at your doorstep, you don't have to walk far to be in an environment where monkeys live and the jungle sings.

Is this trip right for you?

  • The Amazon Jungle can be very hot and humid, so it's important to drink plenty of water and wear light cotton clothing. Make sure you also bring tropical-strength insect repellant.

  • As there are fairly strenuous hikes in humid air, a decent level of fitness is required to feel comfortable when exploring the jungle.

  • This trip includes a full-day's walk in the jungle. Even though the paths are well defined, this still requires a reasonable fitness level and sturdy walking shoes/light hiking boots.

  • While accommodation in the Amazon is clean, comfortable and ideally located, it can seem pretty basic. Please remember that this is a very remote part of the world. As there's no electricity at night, the rooms are lit with candles and kerosene lamps.
