Explore the craters, sand dunes and alien rock formations of otherworldly Moon Valley

San Pedro de Atacama is both sleepy mountain town and gateway to Chile’s adventure-filled Atacama Desert. For one of the driest places on earth there’s a lot of diversity in this desert – geysers, smoking volcanoes, expansive sand dunes, salt flats and hot springs – a place where the pure blue sky contrasts with the deep red of the rock. In the shadow of the Licancabur volcano, explore the frontier-like town of San Pedro and venture out in to the unique lunar landscape of Moon Valley. This is one of the world’s best places for stargazing, so finish this eye-opening independent experience contemplating the infinite number of stars that fill the sky.

Meals Included

Travel out on a private tour of the Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley) and it’ll quickly become clear where the name comes from. This is a landscape from another world, as if you’ve travelled through space rather than by dusty road and landed on the Moon or Mars. Look out across the alien landscape of sweeping sand dunes and large red rock walls millions of years old. Visit the Grand Crater and the Salt Canyon, the Salt Caves and the famous Three Marias rock formation. Watch as the setting sun bathes the distant volcanoes in pink and red, and the light sets off the purple and gold of the valley landscape. In the evening join an astronomic tour and gaze up at the billions of stars above in the totally clear skies. Peer through a telescope and see the planets and Saturn with its rings with your very own eyes.
