Get close to the incredible wildlife of the Galapagos Islands on this short adventure

Whether you're short on time or fresh off another Galapagos oddysey, this is the ideal short trip to Isla San Cristobal. The Galapagos' fifth-largest, eastern-most island is also its oldest geologically, and a rich array of wildlife abounds in this land of extinct volacoes. With the expertise of local naturalists, this is a chance to swim and snorkel with sea lions, learn the fascinating history of the archipelago, and watch in awe as blue-footed boobies, frigates and finches cut across the otherwordly seascape.

Independent Experiences

Independent travel, without the stress. Peregrine’s Independent Experiences are a range of short ‘mini tours’ that you can add to other Experiences or as an extension to a longer tour, to craft your perfect holiday itinerary. Why we love this trip

  • This is the perfect extension to Peregrine's comprehensive Galapagos Adventures trip

  • Take the chance to witness pods of sea lions spread out on the beach at Isla Lobos, or Spotted Eagle Rays gliding beneath the surface of the water at Kicker Rock (you'll enjoy either one of these, depending on availability)

  • Take in panoramic views over this spectacular region after climbing to the top of Frigatebird Hill

  • With a private local guide, you'll maximise your experience of this legendary region of wildlife

Is this trip right for you?

  • This trip includes a snorkelling excursion, so a level of confidence in the water is required.

  • On Day 1 there is a short but energetic two-kilometre walk to the top of the scenic Frigatebird Hill. A reasonable level of fitness is needed for this.

Welcome to the Galapagos Islands. Your Independent Experience begins with a welcome meeting at the hotel at 11:30 am. In afternoon you will head out to the Interpretation Center to learn about the history of these 'enchanted islands'. Next you'll make your way to the Frigatebird Hill (Cerro Tijeretas), located two kilometres from the Interpretation Center, southwest of Isla San Cristobal. It's quite a climb to the top, but well worth it for the amazing views of the bay. From here you can also see Kicker Rock, an eroded volcanic formation protruding from the sea which has become an emblem of the island. Then it's time to head to La Loberia, put on some snorkelling gear for the first time and go for a swim with sea lions (perhaps even some sea turtles).

Notes: Please advise Peregrine no later than 15 days from departure where you are arriving from and what time (perhaps you are coming from Quito, or you may already be in the Galapagos). If you are flying into San Cristobal Airport the easiest way to get to the hotel is to take a taxi, which usually costs around US $4.

Meals Included
There are no meals included on this day.
Today you will embark on an excursion to Kicker Rock, also known as Isla Lobos. Along the way, observe the famous Galapagos marine life. You might also be able to spot nesting frigates and blue-footed boobies, and you might go snorkeling with playful young sea lions. On arrival at the islet, enjoy some snorkeling, keeping an eye out for sea turtles, manta rays and maybe the odd harmless Galapagos shark. You'll get back to the hotel in the late afternoon with enough time to freshen up before dinner. As dinner is not included, the evening is yours to explore some of the local culinary options. Ask your leader for a recommendation.

Notes: Today is a shared service, but your private guide will be travelling with you.
