  • Why we love Europe

    • Europe has a wild heart of rugged mountains, but this is also a continent that excels at gentle pleasures, be it a cycle between Provencal villages, a walk along cliff-top trails to the villages of the Amalfi Coast, or sampling Italy's or Spain's many gastronomic highlights
    • The cities, palaces and landmarks of Eastern Europe rival anything that might be found in the West, but with an extra, unembellished grace
    • In Greece, stay in a relaxing haven called Halepa Hotel in Hania, Crete. It used to be the old British embassy and it still has that air of grandeur and colonial splendour about it
    • Italy has drawn tourists for millennia and there are many ways to see it, we try to take you to the Italy that others can't; the Italy that we know and have fallen in love with.
    • Our France itineraries are built for comfort not speed. There's an emphasis on self-discovery and immersion rather than a carousel of 'best of' highlights

    Safety information

Your safety is our top priority. It’s one of the main things we consider when designing and operating our trips. Here’s some of the ways we help to keep you safe, and a few of the things you can do to make your trip memorable for all the right reasons.

    Before you travel:

We monitor travel alerts provided by the Australian, UK, USA and Canadian governments on a daily basis. Before a tour goes on sale we assess any risks and decide how to reduce and manage these. If we determine that an entire trip, part of a trip or an activity is too risky we won’t do it. It’s as simple as that. If we can’t address the issues and improve conditions we might modify an itinerary, change the accommodation or even decide not to travel to a certain location. Our overseas staff and local leaders are trained to address any health and safety concerns during trips. Before you travel, we’ll give you an emergency phone number. You’ll also get comprehensive pre-departure information, with information about vaccinations and other relevant health issues. We’ll also tell you if there’s any special clothing or equipment you need to bring.

    During your trip:

You local leader is trained in first aid and always carries a first aid kit. Being a local means that if something does go wrong they know fastest and most effective way to get help. We’ll also give you a 24-hour emergency number in addition to the emergency destination telephone number.

    What you can do:

Read through all the information we send you. If you’ve got any questions we’re always available to help. Keep an eye out for travel alerts by consulting your local Foreign Office. We also monitor these daily so that we can modify tours if necessary. Get some medical travel advice about the countries you are visiting, particularly about vaccinations and the type of personal first aid kit you should carry. Make sure you tell us any medical conditions, special needs or dietary requirements you might have. Get your vaccinations and take relevant medication well before travelling so they have time to take effect.

Tour was trouble free and well organised. There was a little confusion about whether or not tips for leaders and drivers was expected. Paperwork prior to the tour suggested that it was and even gave amounts whilst it was said at the pre tour meeting that it was not expected.

Our Tour Leader/Guide, Iskender, was exceptional. His knowledge in all areas was extraordinary. He kept us entertained as well!

We felt we were able to see a lot through our trip, probably more than we could have by ourselves. Particularly the lakes areas were really well done and a real highlight was the 5 hour walk at lake como. Alessandro did an excellent job as tour leader and it was fantastic to be guided by someone who is from the local region and has all that local knowledge. His interest in good food and wine was an added bonus! The only criticism would be with the accommodation in Milan where they mucked up our booking on arrival and we were placed in separate rooms. Also the accommodation after the big 5 hour walk was too far from town and restaurants and was a bit of a strange place to stay with funiculars etc. Otherwise a great tour well lead by alessandro. Regards Jacquie and Sharon

Thank you so much for organising our wonderful odyssey. Turkey was magical, strange, enchanting, amazing. The tour guide was marvellous, the group was one of those amazing collections of people who you really hope you want to meet and talk to in life, and we now have a hunger to see more of this wonderful world we live in. We think this was such a great way to see the country, our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and our driver was professional, polite and thoroughly comfortable to drive with. The thousands of years old history everywhere, and the interest of the people we met in their own country was great. The balloon ride over Cappadocia was out of this world. To be able to walk by myself on Anzac Cove beach, not another person even from our tour made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I had a tear in my eye walking later amongst the graves of the fallen, though I don’t even have a relative there.A must see for any Aussie interested in our history.

I knew very little about Turkey before this trip but am now a big fan, thanks to Peregrine and our terrific guide, Ugur. This was a wonderful trip for getting a feel for much that Turkey has to offer as we travelled through central Turkey to the Mediterranean in the south and back along the Aegean coastline. However that does necessitate spending quite a lot of time on the bus. Make sure that you add at least a few days in Istanbul before and/or after the tour. It is an amazing city.

Our tour guide,Rafael was fantastic, getting us to eat where the locals do, travel using their transport system and encouraging us to explore. The only thing I would change is perhaps a little more free time to SHOP!\ The tour ends in Verona and John and I would suggest you stay for a day here to explore this wonderful historic town. Climing to the top of Mt Nemrut and watching the sunset is an experience not to be missed. The Turkish people are friendly and have a great sense of humour. Tourist are not common in this part of the country and the locals wanted to ensure that we saw their city/town and all it had to offer. The children wanted to practice their English, and the afternoon in Derende with the English students was incredible.

tour leader and driver were excellent. Tour was a litle too ambitious and would have been more enjoyable had we had a little more personal time. Maybe a few more multi night stays rather than moving almost every night. While I recognize that a small bus is preferable for maneouverabilty, 17 people in a 17 person bus (driver included) is too tight. We have been on tours where we had two seats per person. This gives you room to spread out, move around and talk to people and sleep if you want. Probably the solution is same bus, less tourists per tour and pay a little more.

There is very little free time at any town. we arrived in most towns at about 6.00pm and dinner 7.00 or 7.30 so free time to wander was almost non existant. A number of hotels were some way from the town centre so that made it difficult to walk anywhere. The leather factory was a "hard sell" situation for us. the staff kept following us around and we had to leave and wait outside. Need more time in Istanbul, particularly when the market is open.

He not only organised this, but had the restaurant decorate our table and then we cut the cake in a 2500 year old Roman water cistern underneath our restaurant in Kas in candlelight. Our tour leader went out of his way to explain Turkish history and culture. His sense of humour and friendly nature was most appreciated and he became one of the group. At all times he was very professional and placed our needs as his number one priority. Our bus driver was a true gentleman and a safe and competent driver.

We feel the tour was comprehensive and varied. We saw a large amount of the country yet there was still time for relaxation to enjoy the company of our fellow travellers. The accommodation overall was very satisfactory; one suggestion is that we would have preferred to have had a sheet as well as a duvet, as we were too hot on several nights. Many people like to sleep without the air conditioning. The travel bus was comfortable. Fatih, the driver, was friendly and we felt safe in his hands. However the thing that really made the tour memorable and enjoyable for us was that we had a tour guide par excellence. Uger Vural is knowledgable, enthusiastic and passionate in his desire to pass on to visitors the wonders of his country. Lots of tour guides have knowledge, but Uger is so personable and friendly, that you feel that your enjoyment of his tour is very important to him.

If we ever do another Peregrine tour in Turkey we would wish to do it again with Ali. He has become our friend. The tour itself was well run and generally very interesting. Ali's commentaries were extremely helpful. Food stops were well selected, and the hotels ranged from adequate to top notch. From a personal viewpoint as a New Zealander, the Pammukale geothermal features were a disappointment - nothing like what we a used to in NZ. Some of the walks a difficult but well worth it-but there are buses run by the park rangers for pickup & dropoff if some parts of the walk is too steep. It is also well worth catching the boat from Monterosso to Portovenere to see the villages. The train service is excellent enabling easy travel to & from each village instead of walking if too tired. Self guided notes were 110% right down the last little detail.

I wish to thank Bayram for one of the most enjoyable tours of my life. I went to Turkey to experience the culture, history, and sites. At times some of the architecture (man made and natural) took my breath away, having lunch with his family will be an experience I will never forget (I felt it an honour to be invited to his home family home) then again to his own home. At times the traveling was long, but I would not change anything as I would not miss any of the sites he took us to, or made us walk to. Bayram knowledge was amazing (though sometimes he might think it was wasted on me) His organisational skills were incredible for a person of his age, as I find that this skill comes with age. I wish Bayram and his family all the best and I hope one day our paths will cross again.

Some of the days involved long bus trips that became tedious, and some of the accommodation was below the standard we expected,eg. Goreme and Ankara. More time for rest and recreation would be appreciated. Apart from these observations the tour was excellent and the tour leader very helpful, informed and personable.

Amazing scenery. Excellent knowledgeable guide. BUT in my opinion, he let the group spread out too much on the tracks, which then caused a problem in that one lady had to be helped in places as maybe her age was against her,& also her fitness a little off as the ground was quite rough, steep at times. Helped by other male members, including me. Do not think it was really our responsibility, however as a NZ tramper/bush walker, one never leaves anyone behind. There were some quite hard moments(never wish to go down steps again). We walked thru the hottest part of the day, having lunch mostly about 2pm. Felt we could have bought our own lunch and had a break along the track. Would have be much nicer. We did do this a couple of times.

Ours was a small group of six, plus our leader and driver, and the number worked really well. We were able to time our visits to busy places to avoid crowds, and once there could move around more quickly, and have better Q&A time with our guide compared to the larger groups we saw. We also got to know each other and became like a family on the tour which was a precious experience. Highly recommended!

I'd have to say the hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia was a real thrill for me. Turkey is such a vibrant country, couldn't get enough of it. What a fabulous informative guide we had in Memis Buyukata proud to be a turk and passionate about his country. Would love to do the tour all over again sometime. Only criticism was a few hotels lacked fridges, an occasional swimming pool would have highlighted my stay.

We could not be more please with the tour, the accommodation, the places visited and the care shown us on the journey. The driver Erdal was also very good at ensuring we felt safe and was always pleasant and friendly. The only issue we had was the failure of the company to do the pick up from our cruise boat at the beginning of the journey, AND despite the tour guide ringing to ensure the pick up from the final hotel to the airport for our departure was in place, they again failed to undertake the pick-up, very frustrating. With time before international departure a critical issue we had to pay for alternate taxi transfer.

This was our first Peregrine and cycling tour. We liked the idea of the self-guided trip as I am particularly not a cyclist and did not want the pressure of holding up a group. Loved the experience right from the start, where our information pack was presented to us without asking at our first hotel. The bikes provided were in excellent condition and the maps provided sufficient to get us around. I had chosen the Loire Valley as it was not too hilly and provided many opportunities to cycle through the country and villages. Tracks and roads were good quality and the experience thoroughly enjoyable. Hotels and meals were good and great value even providing well for me, a vegetarian. Great to know our bags were getting transported from place to place and not getting as wet as us! Would recommend the experience to anyone.

I was ambivalent about doing this tour as I had been an independent traveller for three months prior and wasn't sure that an organised tour would be as good as 'doing your own thing'. However, I thoroughly enjoyed travelling with a group and 15 was a great number. There was quite a bit of bus travel, but Turkey is a big place. The itinerary was well thought out, although with hindsight it would have been good to fly to Goreme and skip Antalya. We could have then spent more time at Kas or Fetiye. I would highly recommend this tour and we were so lucky to have Ergun as a tour leader - his knowledge of Turkey and all neighbouring countries was incredible.

The trip was well organised, but seemed to be rushed, so as to fit in all of itinerary. I would class the tour as a trek more so than a walk due to steep terrain that needs to be negotiated daily. As it was one couple did not participate after the first day, but I believe that was due to their fitness level more than anything else. We had a good group of people and the tour leader, Vincenzo, was excellent and his level of local knowledge was tremendous which he was always willing to pass on. He also went out of his way to show us the local restaurants and customs.

Great trip for seeing some beautiful areas of Italy and France. The Italian part of the tour had a dirrent pace to the French part: in Italy there was a lot of free time every day to explore small towns, in the French sctor there were picnic lunches most days away from towns and we finished the days in late afternoon. The hotels were well situated and some had a lot of character. The towns visited were great both in Italy and France. In general the walking was very easy if you are a fit walker though the temperatures by the end of our trip were in the mid thirties which adds some extra difficulty.

Our Turkey tour was excellent. Tour leader is Selen Nur Caliskan. Selen is a lovely lady who looked after us very well. Our driver Fatih is excellent too. There are many highlights on this trip, in Istanbul alone we saw so much! The Aya Sophia, Topkapi, Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cistern, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Taksim, Rustem Pasha Mosque, Pera Palace, Cagaloglu Hamam...all amazing places!! Then we travelled around Turkey and everywhere we went it was just wonderful!! So much history and culture, and the very friendly people. We saw so much thanks to our leader Selen.

Our Greek Islands tour is also very good. Our leader here is Theodore and he is very well organised and looked after us very well. We visited Knossos on our own on Crete and it is amazing!! We also loved Santorini and Mykonos. Akrotiri on Santorini is another highlight. We enjoyed the seafood. The Olympic flame was there on the Acropolis the morning we were there. Theodore lokked after us very well, thanks.

She provided lots of information of the sights, places, history and introduced us to some amazing food. Stela also helped us with information for our overland travel through Bosnia and Serbia after our trip. Many thanks to her.

We found our recent trip to Turkey both enjoyable and informative. Our guide, Korhan, was well organised, very personable and very knowledgeable about both historic Turkey and modern. We especially appreciated the contact we had with the Turkish people and local Turkish cuisine. The family run hotels where we stayed were clean, relaxed and comfortable and preferrable to the few resorts we stayed in. The tour had a good balance between physicality, museum/ historic site visits and free time.We will definitely travel with Peregrine again.

Excellent tour guide, Memis, and very capable bus driver. Accomodation was good, but some breakfasts were sparse and bathrooms poorly maintained. Itinerary provided a great introduction to Turkey, and an incentive to return this diverse country.

What was particularly important to the success of the trip was the capacity of both Memis and the driver to seamlessly modify the itinerary to accommodate the prevailing conditions, client needs and interests.

We would certainly recommend this tour to those seeking an introduction to Turkey.

I really loved the trip. It was so complete and full and I never once felt rushed or that I'd missed out on something. It totally met my expectations.

I have no complaints with the choice of hotels. Some excellent, some very adequate.

The highlight for me was Capadocia...I especially LOVED the balloon ride. The natural beauty of Goreme was overwhelming...with its ancient houses and churches carved out of volcanic ash.
As a historian...I thoroughly enjoyed all the ancient history and Roman ruins.
The area around Kas (including Kas) was incredibly beautiful and the day on the boat/swimming very special...the sunken Roman city...fascinating...loved it! Restaurants were great in Kas also.

I suggest that the Terrace Houses are added into the trip to Ephusus. They were more than worth seeing.

OVERALL...great trip and I came back feeling 20 years younger and healthier with all the walking. I'm already thinking about the next one.

From a totally selfish perspective, I found the constant adjustment of the routes and terrains to allow for those less prepared for the nature of the trek was annoying and a little unfair. I realise how difficult it is to ensure that those undertaking the trek understand what is involved. However I signed up for a particular level of activity and was disappointed that it had to be modified for those less able.or willing.  We were still able to complete most of the specified walks and all credit to Chiara for her adaptability and sensitivity.
