Danube Cycle -Vienna to Budapest 8 days

Danube cycle

The perfect way to explore the heart of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire is on two wheels along the mighty Danube River. From magnificent Vienna, Europe’s cultural hub you’ll cycle along the Hungarian side of the Danube through historic riverside towns on to Slovakia’s charming capital, Bratislava. Winding your way through pastoral fields and small farming towns into Hungary, you’ll stay in the magical towns of Gyor and Esztergom along the way. Cycling at your own pace, there is ample time to explore the impressive palaces and grand cathedrals as you go. The Danube river valley will eventually lead you to the small town of Visegrad and the artists’ town of Szentendre, with its many museums, cafes and galleries. This self guided cycling adventure comes to an end in grand old Budapest, with its exquisite architecture and endless charm it makes an ideal end point to a rewarding week.

Trip leaders: Yanos our trip leader for Journey through Central Europe was excellent.  He is Hungarian and speaks excellent English, Czech, German, Hungarian and Polish so there were no language barriers during this trip.  Yanos had great suggestions on how to spend our free time and was happy to facilitate booking extra activities for us as a group or individuals.  He also gave us some insight into how the life has changed over the past 20 years for the people living in former communist countries in Central Europe as well as an overview of the history of the region over the past 1000 years.  Itinerary:  The Journey through Central Europe itinerary was very good, an extra night in Krakow would be the only change I'd suggest.

We had a wonderful trip - saw lots, learned heaps, met lovely people. Can't wait to go again.  Janos Ratkai was particularly good in his role of tour leader, combining the roles of guide, teacher and organiser most effectively. He was very aware of pertinient responsible tourism issues and very thorough in ensuring that the guests were able to attend all activities that interested them. Jonas was also very particular that the guests were able to travel safely around the different cities during their free time. His local knowledge was a great benefit and his enthusiasm for also learning more about the places we visited added to the positive atmosphere of the tour.  Please send me a copy of your new brochureso that my husband and I can do some planning for future travel.
