Eastern Europe Odyssey

This journey, from Austria to Poland via, Hungary and Slovakia, showcases some of the finest cities in Europe. From Vienna, centre of the Habsburg Empire, we travel to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava, which will surprise us with its hidden charm. Buda is the ‘grand old lady’ of Eastern Europe – a combination of Buda, which lies on the side of the hill and still contains remnants dating to Roman and Ottoman days, and the commercial centre on the east side of the Danube River. With a fine collection of museums and monuments such as the Chain Bridge and Houses of Parliament (based on those of London) there is much to see. Our 'Highlight Experience' in the Széchényi Baths is sure to relax you and is a memorable inclusion in this fine city. A day trip to the countryside takes us to Esztergom, Visegrad and Szentendre, where huge cathedrals and grand castles blend into the charming rural setting of vineyards and small villages - a further Hungarian highlight. We complete our journey in the medieval gem, known as Krakow. This former capital of Poland escape unscathed from the ravages of World War II and a walk up the hill to Wawel Cathedral and the adjoining castle is proof that much of the ‘old’ Europe still survives intact.

Trip leaders: Yanos our trip leader for Journey through Central Europe was excellent.  He is Hungarian and speaks excellent English, Czech, German, Hungarian and Polish so there were no language barriers during this trip.  Yanos had great suggestions on how to spend our free time and was happy to facilitate booking extra activities for us as a group or individuals.  He also gave us some insight into how the life has changed over the past 20 years for the people living in former communist countries in Central Europe as well as an overview of the history of the region over the past 1000 years.  Itinerary:  The Journey through Central Europe itinerary was very good, an extra night in Krakow would be the only change I'd suggest.

We had a wonderful trip - saw lots, learned heaps, met lovely people. Can't wait to go again.  Janos Ratkai was particularly good in his role of tour leader, combining the roles of guide, teacher and organiser most effectively. He was very aware of pertinient responsible tourism issues and very thorough in ensuring that the guests were able to attend all activities that interested them. Jonas was also very particular that the guests were able to travel safely around the different cities during their free time. His local knowledge was a great benefit and his enthusiasm for also learning more about the places we visited added to the positive atmosphere of the tour.  Please send me a copy of your new brochureso that my husband and I can do some planning for future travel.
