Highlights of Croatia & the Balkans
A colourful tapestry of cultures, landscapes and traditions, the Balkan countries offer a wonderful insight into a lesser-known Europe. We discover cities that have survived the ravages of war to become the medieval treasures they are today. From Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, the cosmopolitan culture amidst the Austro-Hungarian architecture give it an interesting feel of east meets west. We encounter pristine nature at Plitvice National Park, a myriad of streams, brooks and flowing waterfalls make this one of the region’s most impressive national parks. Crossing the border into Bosnia and Herzogovina, we explore Bihać, idyllically located on the rolling Una River and surrounded by beautiful natural forest and Sarajevo, the small but dynamic capital. We also visit ancient Mostar with its impressive 16th century bridge. Dubrovnik, the jewel of the Dalmatian Coast, is a highlight and we explore this UNESCO World Heritage site on foot. A day excursion into Montenegro showcases Europe’s most southerly fjord, Boka Kotorska, and the wonderful old city of Kotor. Our wonderful Balkan adventure ends in Dubrovnik.
