Colours of Amalfi

The Amalfi Coast is certainly one of the world's most beautiful places, with spectacular natural features such as jagged peaks and colourful wildflowers growing on the slopes. With its curving contours, the whole area offers stunning views at every turn and is dotted with small towns and villages, all with thousands of years of history behind them. The peninsula is actually part of a mountain chain that drops dramatically to the sea, with the expansive Gulf of Naples on one side and the equally beautiful Gulf of Salerno on the other. Starting our journey in Naples we make our way to Mount Vesuvius and enjoy a walk around the mountain that set off probably the most famous volcanic eruption in Europe. We explore the streets of former lost city of Pompeii and imagine what life must have been like 2,000 years ago. We also put our culinary skills to the test by learning how to make pizza! Our walking adventure takes us into the heart of the Amalfi region, enabling us to walk on little-known trails, meet local people and discover hidden corners. Amalfi is the perfect place for you and your family to soak up the spirit of Italy!

From a totally selfish perspective, I found the constant adjustment of the routes and terrains to allow for those less prepared for the nature of the trek was annoying and a little unfair. I realise how difficult it is to ensure that those undertaking the trek understand what is involved. However I signed up for a particular level of activity and was disappointed that it had to be modified for those less able.or willing.  We were still able to complete most of the specified walks and all credit to Chiara for her adaptability and sensitivity.

Most memorable part of the trip - the walks to Montecatini, San Gimignano and the wonderful concert we were lucky enough to hear in Volterra. The hilltop villages are so atmospheric and filled with stories.
