In the shadow of the Swiss and Italian Alps, the Lake Como region is home to lavish villas and magnificent gardens – European nobility, seduced by its charm, have long flocked here for holidays. Elegant and luxurious villas line the shores of the lake and camellias, hydrangeas and azaleas are reflected in the quiet waters. We embark on some great walks and visit some of the area’s most splendid villas. It’s then into Switzerland where we explore the area of St Moritz and take one of the world’s most spectacular train rides, back into Italy. We then move on to explore Lake Garda, bordered by impressive rocky cliffs and soaring mountains in the north, vineyards and olive groves in the south. Old cobblestone paths take us through the maze of villages and up through the hills, dominated by snowy peaks in the distance. We walk through vineyards, olive groves and wild mountains, and discover a Roman chapel and an 18th century palace. There is so much to discover in this truly delightful region.

| 2 | Walking tour of Milan, including climb to the roof of the Gothic Duomo. Drive to Como, with time to explore this beautiful town. |
| 3 | Walk into the mountains towards Rifugio Menaggio. Spectacular views of the whole region (1400m/5 hours). Travel by boat to lakeside village of Varenna. |
| 4 | Boat trip to the central part of Lake COmo via Villa Melzi and Villa Carlotta and the romantic village of Bellagio (3-4 hours) |
| 5 | Drive along the shore of Lake Como and on to St Moritz, Switzerland. Excursion to glacier of Morteratsch. Return to Tirano, Italy by spectacular train journey; the Bernina Express. |
| 6 | Drive through the Brenta Dolomites to Lake Garda. Boat trip to village of Limone. Walk through beautiful Singol Valley (4 hours). |
| 7 | Boat ride to southern shores of Lake Garda. Explore town of Garda. Walk along beach to the magical peninsula of San Vigilio (3-4 hours). |
| 8 | After breakfast, transfer from Riva del Garda to Verona. Trip ends on arrival around midday (Sun). |
