Magical Tuscany & Portofino Peninsula 10 days

Magical Tuscany & Portofino Peninsula

Beginning in Florence, the city that gave birth to the Renaissance, we move southeast to the village in the sky – Montepulciano and it’s labyrinthine cobblestone streets lined by boutiques and wine cellars. We wander across postcard perfect meadows and olive groves dotted with pastel coloured farmhouses and visit charming villages such as Monticchiello and Bagno Vignoni hidden to mass-tourism by their location and tiny size. Siena a city of refinement and class is then our home for the next two days before continuing to the hilltop village of Volterra famed for its magnificent sunsets and Etruscan ruins dating back over 2000 years. Next glamour and glorious coastal scenery await our exploration from our base in charming Santa Margherita. From here we will make excursions to Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Landscapes, history, wine and culture highlight our ten fabulous days of discovery.

Be open to experiencing another culture so you don't expect things to be like "at home."  Make the most of the other people on the tour and their experiences.

From a totally selfish perspective, I found the constant adjustment of the routes and terrains to allow for those less prepared for the nature of the trek was annoying and a little unfair. I realise how difficult it is to ensure that those undertaking the trek understand what is involved. However I signed up for a particular level of activity and was disappointed that it had to be modified for those less able.or willing.  We were still able to complete most of the specified walks and all credit to Chiara for her adaptability and sensitivity.
