Croatia Wet & Wild - Family Adventure

Croatia Wet & Wild - Family Adventure

Cetina River

Roman Emperor Diocletian's former palace in Split

Trip rating
  • This trip is perfect for active families who love being on the water. You'll be based in the town of Trilj, which means no long days of travel. Wake up each day to a new adventure, then come home to the same hotel at night. Based close to the Cetina River, it's a week packed with kayaking, white water rafting, canoeing, swimming bike riding and walking.

Please note that these trips are for adults and children travelling together and there must be at least one child under 18 with you.

    Day 1 - Arrive Split

    • After arriving in Split, you will be transferred to Trilj, which will be your home for the coming week.
    • Trilj is dominated by the Cetina River on one side, and mountains on the other. It is a fantastic place to take part in activities like river fishing, canoeing, rafting, hore riding, cycling and hiking.
    • Settle into your hotel then get out and explore. This is a really active trip, and coming home to the same place each night means less time travelling each day, and more time having fun!

Day 2 - Rafting on Cetina River

    • The Cetina River is considered home to Croatia's best white water rafting. It is a dam controlled, safe river with some wild grade four and five rapids and big waves.
    • It is a great place to try rafting for the first time, or to get out and show everyone your honed technique.
    • As the river flows, it eases into some calmer sections which are perfect for swimming. Head out for a walk or simply relax by the water.
    • NB: If the water levels are too low for rafting, then kayaks are a more interesting way to explore the river.
    Breakfast | Dinner

Day 3 - Kayaking on Vrlika River

    • You will get ready for some kayaking and canoeing today, as you head to an upstream section of Vrlika River.
    • This is one of our favourite parts of the river, with warm water in summer making it perfect for swimming.
    • Yesterday you would have learnt some new skills rafting on the Cetina River, you will have the chance to put them to use today as you head to a different stretch of the river for kayaking.
    • You will return to Trilj tonight, where you can you can kick back over a relaxing dinner and share today's best stories.
    Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner

Day 4-5 - Cycling and sea kayaking

    • You will give your sea legs a rest today and jump on bikes to explore some country roads.
    • Cycle through traditional villages and see how life unfolds in this part of the world. Feel free to stop and chat with the locals, and make sure you ride at a slow pace in order to take it all in. Your leader will be able to offer advice on which routes to take, as there are many to choose from.
    • Sea kayaking on the Adriatic Coast is a wonderful experience. It is often calm, making it perfect for those who are paddling for the first time. There are plenty of picturesque islands to explore, surrounded by warm water with the sun on your back. Sea kayaks allow you to get near the rocks, where colourful fish and other creatures can be seen looking for food and shelter.
    • There will be plenty of time for swimming as well, before heading back to your base in Trilj.
    Breakfast | Dinner

Day 6-8 - Canoeing, optional activities, trip end

    • You will return to the Cetina River today for a thrilling canoe safari. The ever-changing views, with open green meadows that lead dramatically to high cliffs will leave yo in a state of constant surprise. Canoes are the perfect way to experience the river, going at a leisurely place to take in all the surrounding beauty.
    • On your last day of the trip, there will be a number of options. Be as active or as lazy as you want! Take a bike tour around some more villages, or head off on foot to explore some places of interest.
    • If you'd like to mix things up, why not head into Split, Croatia's second largest city. There's cobbled streets, ancient buildings and plenty of waterfront bars, restaurants and cafes to relax at. There's also some lovely coastal paths just outside the city.
    • Your trip will come to an end after an early transfer to Split from Trilj on Day 8.

European cycling is like riding through an old movie: the warm Provencal sun on your face, pedalling down old country lanes and sun-dappled roads, stopping only for a boutique wine tasting or a spot of French cheese.
