Trip rating
  • This trip is perfect for active families who love being on the water. You'll be based in the town of Trilj, which means no long days of travel. Wake up each day to a new adventure, then come home to the same hotel at night. Based close to the Cetina River, it's a week packed with kayaking, white water rafting, canoeing, swimming bike riding and walking.

Please note that these trips are for adults and children travelling together and there must be at least one child under 18 with you.

Our Family Adventures are designed specifically for the spirited family and operated by our sister company The Family Adventure Company. We understand that travelling with kids sometimes requires a slightly different perspective. Keeping this in mind, we travel at a slower speed - recognising that showing your family around our exotic destinations can take time. By travelling at a relaxed pace, while still offering plenty of optional activities along the way, we're providing your family with the ultimate travel experience together.
Accommodation is chosen carefully to ensure your family gets the best of both worlds, with some of the creature comforts of home as well as experiencing accommodation unique to the region you are travelling through. Wherever possible you will stay in hotels with small comforts to make your stay more enjoyable - such as restaurants nearby, or accommodation with a pool. On some trips you may even find your family being rocked to sleep on an overnight sleeper train or drifting off while camped out under a canopy of stars - and we reckon it'll be these experiences the kids will love and remember the most.
Best of all, we find trips with children are so successful because kids have such a special ability to break down barriers with their natural curiosity, and because delighted locals always greet them with much affection. For all these reasons and more, you'll discover that Family Adventures are an amazing experience for all.

    Itinerary

    Day 1 - Trilj

    • After arriving in Split, you will be transferred to Trilj, which will be your home for the coming week. The hotel has a New outdoor pool, a dedicated games room area with a pool table, table football and table tennis and is located just a short walk from the cafes and restuarants in town.
    • Trilj is dominated by the Cetina River on one side, and mountains on the other. It is a fantastic place to take part in activities like river fishing, canoeing, rafting, cycling and hiking.
    • Settle into your hotel then get out and explore. This is a really active trip, and coming home to the same place each night means less time travelling each day, and more time having fun!
    Dinner

Day 2 - Rafting on Cetina River

    • The Cetina River is considered home to Croatia's best white water rafting. It is a dam controlled, safe river with some wild grade four and five rapids and big waves.
    • It is a great place to try rafting for the first time, or to get out and show everyone your honed technique.
    • As the river flows, it eases into some calmer sections which are perfect for swimming. Head out for a walk or simply relax by the water.
    • NB: If the water levels are too low for rafting, then kayaks are a more interesting way to explore the river.
    Breakfast | Dinner

    Day 3 - Mountain Biking

    • Today our main activity is on land as we take to mountain bikes to explore the countryside. We are transported to the top of the Vostone Hill 18 km away to start our ride. Clearings of the mountain KameŇ°nica are not as green as the hills around Trilj, but the ride through rarely populated authentic mountain villages and pastures will provide an almost mystic atmosphere. We cycle downhill to Ruda, then Grab and back to the hotel. If the outside temperature exceeds 30 c then we start from the spring on the river Ruda, via Grab and back to the hotel. In the evening we can relive our biking experiences over dinner!
    Breakfast | Dinner

    Day 4 - Mini rafting

    • Today we head back to the water and our activity is mini rafting on the Cetina River. We transfer from the hotel for 20 minutes and start our half day mini rafting adventure in the village of Cikotina ladja on the river. The mini rafts are a hot dog in shape and seat 2 or 3 passengers, you have no captain you are controlling yourselves down the river.
    Breakfast | Dinner

Day 5 - Rafting and Beach Day

    • Today we are back in the water as we grab our rafts and take to the river at a small village called Zadvarje. Our rafts are led by a guide and there are 3 people on either side powering the raft. The guide at the back takes control of most of the steering for you. We head to the beach for an afternoon of relaxation.
    Breakfast | Dinner

    Day 6 - Nature Walk

    • After all the exertion of the last few days, we have a quieter day and on two legs rather than on the water. 20 minutes from the hotel there are the Roman ruins of Tilurium which was an Illyrian fortified settlement that we walk to and explore. We follow this up with a treasure hunt style activity in the woods opposite the hotel before returning for a game of table tennis or a dip in the pool.
    Breakfast | Dinner

    Day 7 - At Leisure

    • On your final day we can be as active or as lazy as you wish. We can take a bicycle tour to other places of interest in the area or set off on foot for more independent exploration. If you are ready for some urban surroundings, why not visit Split, Croatia's second largest city. Split offers an exciting mix of the old and the new, as you can wander cobbled streets, visit ancient buildings or sit at a sea front cafe. Just outside the city are some coastal paths you can explore.
    Breakfast | Dinner

    Day 8 - Trilj - Departure

    • The trip finishes this morning after breakfast and you are free to leave at any time.

European cycling is like riding through an old movie: the warm Provencal sun on your face, pedalling down old country lanes and sun-dappled roads, stopping only for a boutique wine tasting or a spot of French cheese.

A musical journey around the world
