Cruise along Turkey’s Mediterranean coastline in a traditional sailing boat, known as a gulet. You’ll have lots of downtime to swim, sunbathe and relax in picture-perfect splendour. While time onshore provides some brilliant opportunities to shop and try the local delights.
Accommodation: Khan Hotel or similar, Antalya
On arrival at Antalya Airport you are met and transferred to your starting hotel. After checking in, please look out for the Peregrine notice board in the hotel lobby, which has a list of suggestions for things to see and do in your free time. As today is an arrival day, there is no formal sightseeing planned. Antalya one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey. A historic port city, Antalya was formerly known as Attaleia and was founded by Attalos II, King of Pergamum, in the 2nd century BC. The old part of town, known as Kaleici, contains many remnants of past civilisations with its narrow winding streets and old wooden houses. Today much of Antalya is an attractive modern city with shaded palm-lined boulevards and a lively marina area. In the evening there will be a Welcome Meeting (please check notice board for exact time) held in the hotel, where you will meet your tour leader and fellow travel companions.
Meals included: 1 dinner
Accommodation: On Gulet
Our morning is free for us to explore Antalya. Then in the afternoon drive to Kemer where we board our gulet (traditional sailing boat) for an idyllic cruise on the Mediterranean Sea. With private twin-berth cabins and a full complement of crew, our four days afloat will include a myriad of highlights. Tonight we spend our first night on board docked at a port.
Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 dinner
Accommodation: On Gulet
After breakfast we sail for the Lycian city of Phaselis, which was founded in the 7th century BC and flourished as a commercial trading centre where anything could be bought and sold, including citizenships for 100 drachmas! The Phaselians were more concerned about preserving the affluence of their commerce than with staking any political independence, so they pragmatically accepted any conquerors that came their way. The city thrived until the 12th century when it was superseded in importance by the nearby ports of Antalya and Alanya. The beauty of Phaselis is in its picture-postcard setting. It is built around three small bays, each with its own beach, surrounded by fragrant woods and mountains. After the visit we go on sailing to Adrasan Bay where we spend another night on board our boat.
Meals included: 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners
Accommodation: On Gulet
We cruise through a series of peaceful and picturesque uninhabited islands, all with distinctive rock formations and mountainous landscapes. We sail above sunken cities and see ancient house submerged under the crystal clear water. We will visit the settlement of Ucagiz where we enjoy spectacular views from its castle and the quaint village of Simena, with its stone houses covered in bougainvilleas. We sail from large open bays to beautiful protected inlets with plenty of time to go swimming from our boat or simply relax on board and soak up the beautiful vistas.
Meals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 1 dinner
Accommodation: On Gulet
As we continue sailing west out of Kekova, we arrive at Kas, a very lovely spot surrounded on three sides by mountains. The swimming is excellent in the clear cool water around Kaş. Even though there are only some sarcophagi left from the ancient Antipellos, the charm of Kas remains and it is a pleasure to wander through the streets of this idyllic seaside town.
