From cosmopolitan Istanbul to the ancient remains of the Ottoman Empire and Greek, Roman and Seljuk civilisations, Turkey is a country of fascinating contrasts. We explore the surreal landscapes of Cappadocia, taking the time to walk through Kizilcukur (Red Valley), before discovering Pasabaglari, with its towering, cone-capped ‘fairy chimneys’. We visit mystical Konya, home of the Whirling Dervishes, and the Lycian town of Phaselis. Our odyssey continues through the bizarre, breathtaking landscape of World Heritage listed Pamukkale, before heading to the ruins of Hierapolis. Ephesus is yet another captivating city of antiquity, as are the remains of the walled city of Troy and the sobering battlefields of Gallipoli. Our journey concludes back in Istanbul, where there is time to stroll, shop or relax with a pot of apple tea in the former Byzantine capital of Constantinople.

A great tour with a very safe driver and a dedicated, knowledgeable and personable guide. Beware when booking pre and post tour accommodation in Istanbul. It was $160 per night in low season! I believe The Prince Hotel should have a special rate deal for Peregrine clients.

The trip was wonderful. Our driver was very safe on the road. Our guide Memis was very professional and knowledgeable and had a sense of humour that appealed to his 12 Aussie and NZ clients. The itinerary was well planned. The day out on a boat was a welcome change to the coach. The main negative for me was having to pay $160 at the Istanbul Prince Hotel for each extra night prior to and after the tour. The most expensive accommodation I had in Europe.
