If you visit La Roque, you won’t be the first. The limestone cliffs of the Vezere Valley have been home to settlers for, oooh, around 50,000 years. It was relatively recently – a mere 1,500 years ago – that La Roque was extended and fortifications added. The cave complex is now a staggering 1km long and rises in five galleries to over 80 metres in height. A highlight of the Dordogne, not least to see if you can find the fabled lost treasure, left by the English.
