Anzob Pass (3372 metres)

A steep trail ascends from verdant valleys of grass and red poppies through a series of icy switchbacks that get hairier the higher you climb - the road up and over Anzob Pass is narrow, muddy and without a safety rail - you'll feel like leaning into the car and away from the edge, even with the safe experienced hands of your Pamiri driver behind the wheel. Panoramic views in all directions abound, up to snowy, all-season peaks and glacier-fed gullies falling away though loose scree forever. Ignore the wrecked cars, tiny and squashed at the bottom, and you're in for an overwhelming scenic treat.
