France’s crucible of wine tasting. Beaune sits slap in the middle of Burgundian grandeur, the pinot noirs of the Cote de Nuits to the north, and the Cote de Beaune stretching southwards. There really is no better place in France to sample wines – on any street, there are endless cellars underneath your feet, and a beauty parade of degustation signs. Even the town’s medieval ramparts shelter wine cellars! A walk along the walls, then a dive into one (or more) of the many catacombs is the quintessential Beaune experience.
