The spectacular northern finale of the Drakensberg Mountains, Blyde River Canyon cuts a snaking route through nearly 30 kilometres of South Africa’s northeast. A gorgeous winding canyon of lush Lowveld forest, abrupt rugged escarpments and the beautiful blue-green Blyde River, of the many stunning viewpoints, the best of all may be the Three Rondavels. Here you look out on a series of buttresses of towering ochre cliffs and beautiful rounded green heads, standing tall over the river and bush hundreds of metres beneath. You’ll be hard pushed to find a more dramatic landscape in all of Africa.
