The Cinque Terre: how to improve on picture-postcard perfection? Resourceful Italians have the answer – join them up with a beautiful coastal walk that offers an endless array of sweeping views of the villages and the shimmering sea. Lovers’ Lane (or, in the language of love, Via dell’Amore) itself links Manarola with Riomaggiore, two villages only one kilometre apart. But the clifftop trail joins up the other villages of the Cinque Terre as well, and a tour of the coast is the best way to go – the perfect way to settle into the rhythm of local life – alternating gentle strolls with piazza people-watching, kick-start espressos and gelato.
