Cotopaxi - the highest active snow-capped volcano in the world

Ask a child to draw a mountain and they’ll sketch you Cotopaxi. Perfectly conical, snowcapped, and standing apart from other mountains in Ecuador’s ‘avenue of the volcanoes’, this iconic peak, and its surrounding national park, begs exploration. A climb to the refuge, located some 4,500 metres up, gives you both spectacular views over Ecuador’s heartland and a greater appreciation of the majesty of one of the world’s highest active volcanoes (don’t worry – Cotopaxi’s last major eruption was in 1904).
