The 'dancing' white Verreaux's sifakas of Berenty Reserve

A nocturnal wildlife walk through Berenty Private Reserve is a fine safari experience to spot animals little seen during the day and hear the rich calls and movements of the night time jungle. However, it is the daytime dancing ‘sifaka’ lemurs that will most hold your attention. They’re a fearless and inquisitive bunch with refined grooming habits and evolved adaptations to facilitate as much, but it is their inability to walk forward that makes them most intriguing; they leap and scuttle from side to side, ‘dancing’ with outstretched limbs like a limber pop star’s video moves or the choreographed chorus of a musical matinee. Captivating and comic, the sifaka are perhaps the most engaging of Madagascar’s most-famed residents.
