Fort Dauphin's bay

The rusting hulks of shipwrecks make for an eerie counterpoint to the otherwise pristine sweep of beach at Fort Dauphin on Madagascar’s wild southern coast. A stroll at any time of day, and in any weather, seems to suit this sculpture park of maritime ruin and you’ll marvel at the defunct fleet of ships stark against the sand, waves and mountains in the background. Wander on to a local fishing village and you might be offered a lobster lunch – they’re fresh caught and barbequed in front of your eyes, and insanely cheap, making Fort Dauphin a great place to wash up and wander.
