Game drives in the Masai Mara

You’ll want to wake up before dawn to get morning game drives underway; sun up is often the most productive time of day for wildlife viewing, when animals tend to be more active. Hippos may still be grazing in the open, yet to dunk themselves in the river’s cool, leopards might have not yet retired to sleep full-bellied and hidden in trees, nor the rarer antelope yet bedded down in dense thickets. Morning is the best time, too, to see the aftermath of a night time kill; bones have yet been picked clean and lions still feast, scavenging hyenas and jackals skulk around, and vultures wheel high above, circling lower and lower while waiting their turn. You’ve been imagining your safari for a long time, so get up early; bed is no place to make your African dreams reality!
