Not a bad view here. A whopping 2,874 metres above sea level, Sani Top Chalet sits at the Sani Pass, high in Lesotho’s part of the Drakensberg escarpment. The road may be bumpy at times, the switchbacks twisting heart-stoppingly back and forth up the mountain, but it is worth every nervous second and odd moment of blind panic. At Sani, on a clear day the mountains gloriously unfold in front of you, the rugged green carpet of the Drakensberg stretching to the horizon. If the cloud’s coming in, well, that’s pretty spectacular as well – you are after all sitting having a drink above the clouds, not an experience one has every day. So take a seat on the balcony, and have a cold glass of the local Maluti Lager – you’ve earned it.
