Bükk National Park

You'll be hard-pushed to find more a peaceful place for a stroll than Hungary's largest national park, covering vast swathes of the country's northern highlands. Limestone and beech dominate the land here, the former working with wind and glaciers to form a theatrical landscape of jutting rocky outcrops and cliffs, grand ravines and caves, while the dense beech forests that cloak the land give Bukk a wonderful untouched, undiscovered aura for those fortunate enough to explore its trails. The gothic-fairytale romance of towering dark trunks and karst crags continues in towns like Lillafüred, a beautiful place of imposing buildings and hanging gardens, yawning caves and waterfalls.
