The 'hot lake' of Issyk-Kul

Glimpse smooth turquoise water against wrinkled rock and rugged mountains and you’ll understand why the locals love to live on the shores of idyllic Issyk-Kul.  The sandy beach near your village guesthouse is lapped by clear water sometimes warm enough for swimming -  Issyk-Kul means 'Hot-Lake' in the local language, though their definition of ‘hot’ may differ from yours. So have a swim, wander the village and the red sandstone formations of nearby Jeti-Öghüz Canyon, and confirm that Issyk-Kul is the local centre piece for alpine contentment and beauty.
