Lac Blanc

Mont Blanc, Byron wrote, is “the monarch of mountains, crowned...on a throne of rocks, in a robe of clouds”. This classic Alpine trek serves up a procession of magnificent views of the massif as you round it. But the ultimate photograph might just be snapped at Lac Blanc on the walk’s penultimate day. There in the lee of the peaks, with Chamonix Valley laid out to the south, the glacial tarn reflects the massif – a soaring, imperious cathedral of rock, its thousand black granite gothic spires reaching to the heavens.
