Lago Argentino’s glaciers

Your boat from El Calafate quickly plants you in a world of extremes. Lago Argentina is Patagonia at its rawest, and most beautiful. Mammoth glaciers feed into the waters, each of the lake’s narrowing fingers revealing another of these blue-white monsters, often calving huge chunks of ice – a spectacular, unforgettable sight and sound. Most stunning of all is the Perito Moreno Glacier, 30km in length and still advancing, its waters dotted with icebergs, the lake no longer placid but chopped up by the glacier’s constant activity. A tour to the glacier’s foot is simply one of South America’s starkest, unmissable shows
