Medieval city of Szentendre

The Danube starts its graceful bend a little north of baroque Szentendre, the perfect gateway town to what is arguably Hungary’s most picturesque region. A warren of cobbled alleys and decorative churches, excellent art galleries and museums, the town’s gentle pace, and its russet and ochre hues, exudes an easygoing warmth. Whiling away a day is a breeze – explore the town, check out a gallery or museum, then hop on a boat and visit Szentendre Island, the town’s playground for swimming and cycling, and where boats can also be hired. The Danube Bend is best enjoyed sedately, and there’s nowhere better than Szentendre for doing that.
